What Matter Labs builds
We build ZKsync (the technology that scales Ethereum with zero-knowledge proofs) and the products that bring it to developers and institutions. Here's the whole picture.
What is ZKsync
ZKsync is a network of blockchains that use zero-knowledge proofs to scale Ethereum while inheriting its security. Instead of trusting validators, ZKsync proves every transaction with cryptography.
Matter Labs builds the core technology: the proving system, the framework, and the network, all open source.
Prividium: ZKsync for regulated Institutions
Prividium is our enterprise platform. It lets a bank or financial institution operate a private, permissioned blockchain in its own infrastructure, while anchoring every transaction to Ethereum. Private where it matters, connected where it counts.
ZKsync: The network
ZKsync Era is the foundational Layer 2, and the hub of a growing network of ZK chains. Together they form a system secured by cryptography, not validators: fast, cheap, and verifiable on Ethereum.
ZK Stack: Launch your own ZK chain
ZK Stack is the open-source framework behind ZKsync. Anyone (a startup or an institution) can use it to launch a customizable, enterprise-grade ZK chain that scales globally, interoperates natively, and inherits Ethereum's security.
Atlas + Airbender: Speed you can settle on
Atlas pairs a low-latency sequencer with Airbender, a high-performance open-source RISC-V prover, to deliver ~1-second finality and 15,000+ TPS with full EVM equivalence: block proofs in seconds, at a fraction of a cent.
ZKsync Connect: Interoperability for Institutions
ZKsync Connect is the first interoperability protocol built for institutions: real-time, ZK-secured connectivity and atomic settlement across public and private systems. Trust math, not middlemen.
Frequently asked questions
ZKsync is a network of blockchains, built by Matter Labs, that uses zero-knowledge proofs to scale Ethereum while inheriting its security. Instead of trusting validators, ZKsync proves every transaction with cryptography, making transactions fast, cheap, and verifiable on Ethereum.
Yes. ZKsync Era is a Layer 2 (L2) built on top of Ethereum: it processes transactions off-chain for scale, then settles them on Ethereum (Layer 1) for security. It is also the hub of a wider network of ZK chains built with the ZK Stack.
A ZK rollup proves every batch of transactions valid with a cryptographic validity proof, so funds can be withdrawn as soon as that proof is verified on Ethereum. Optimistic rollups instead assume transactions are valid and rely on a challenge period (commonly seven days). ZKsync is a ZK rollup.
ZK Stack is the open-source framework behind ZKsync. Anyone, from a startup to an institution, can use it to launch a customizable, Ethereum-secured ZK chain that scales globally and interoperates natively with the rest of the ZKsync network.
Atlas is a major ZKsync upgrade that pairs a low-latency sequencer with Airbender, an open-source RISC-V prover, to deliver fast finality and high throughput with full EVM equivalence. Together they generate validity proofs quickly so transactions settle on Ethereum at low cost.
